Times are tough

Played cards, badly, and could barely pay my debts. Used a Canadian tire bill to pay the last round. What good is an unscented dryer sheet, some may wonder.

The sailor and Mrs L are in South Carolina, temp around 16 Celsius, having the darnedest time .. dining on duck with blueberry sauce, drinking good champagne, and eating strawberries 'n ice cream. Poor souls, times are tough. My heart bleeds dishwater. He He.

Hey La Girl !

Just gotta share my finished knitting project with you, since you inspired me to knit after all these years. It's a hat for the Littlest.

Learned the block pattern and even made a I-cord.

It's not easy being green

Pepsi has a magazine out, about living a greener life, etc.... ( Not that I associate pepsi with a healthy lifestyle, but who asked for my opinion )...

Any way, it's a free year subscription to "Plenty " magazine...

Burning question

So, it's definite. We now have two-hand-holding-aging-couples that walk the sidewalk. I know the stubby ones, but who are the long and lean ones donning knitted hats?

So, how many can fit in my vehicle ?

The government may get sued by a bunch of irate drivers that got stuck in the Cobequid pass. Well, who's to say exactly who was on the side of the road scared and struggling to keep warm all night. Heck... it could have been me ... and a few friends, coming from Champlain Mall , Christmas shopping. If I recall, I got a heck of a cold from that night in the Nitro .

Trivia?

Did someone blog that they hosted Trivia ? Come now Ldot, share the info.

Recession? What recession?

from the chronicle ~~People still have money for booze

The Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation appears to be feeling no pain, reporting another quarterly profit.
The NSLC had net income of $62.8 million from June 30 to Sept. 28 on gross sales of $160.6 million, an increase of 6.72 per cent over the same period last year, according to a corporation news release.
Wine increased by 5.8%, beer by 4.2%, spirits by 4.3% and ready-to-drink sales by 8.1%, the release said.~~

We certainly haven't contributed to gross sales. Haven't had a drop since late August, but am looking forward to mom's pomegranate martini Christmas eve... aren't we Cook?

Cars and Sex

When it comes to snow fall and snow tires, 800 fender benders were reported in Toronto in the first 5 cm.

Cars and Sex have a lot in common said Rick Mercer.

If you want to avoid an accident, the best way is always abstinence.
But if you are still determined to give that girl a whirl, for God's Sake use protection.

Poor tooth Fairy

Brought son #2 to the dentist today for two extractions. Although they were just stubborn baby teeth, he was really worked up. All went well, and he came out, mouth clenched on gauze, holding a pencil (for his treat) and a small white envelope with spare gauze. on the way home, I tried to make light of the whole situation. " Ah, " I said. "Too bad you didn't bring those teeth with you, cause it would have been worth a lot of money from the tooth fairy !"
" mom ! what do you think is in this envelope?" he says, holding up the white envelope.

"Are your two teeth in there ?

"Of course mom.... what else would be in this?" and he rolls his eyes at me, as if I am sooo dumb.

" Well", i said. " I figured it was spare gauze, you know, that stuff you have in your mouth."

He opens the envelope, carefully looks through the gauze, to find nothing, and flings it.

He's not impressed, and I am trying hard to not laugh.

Canadian Tire Contest... Instant Win

Once a day , until Dec 1st, click on http://canadiantire.eprize.net/season/index.tbappaffiliate_id=1c&adlocation=HP_MB1_lgmb_xmas5000_en_v1_m56577569830963845.jpg
and play an instant game (similar to Bob Barker's Plinko) for a $50 gift certificate at Canadian Tire.

When the cat's away

.... the mice will play. Had a few hands of cards this afternoon. Close score at the end, but Mom won by 3. The boys went sledding, and played in snow all day. Many wet boots, pants, and mitts indeed.

Biggest accomplishments of the day: put my Christmas tree up, made and bottled homemade plum sauce & got dressed before noon.

We all laughed when we were decorating the tree. In the box of ornaments was the "Leg Lamp" ornament from the movie "The Christmas Story". It's Loverboys favorite Xmas tale, and last year we had surprized him with an ornament. You gotta know the story to appreciate the Leg Lamp. The kids were talking about the boy getting his tongue stuck on the frozen flagpole, and his glasses getting shot by the pellet gun after his father had warned him... you're gonna shoot your eye out! Too funny!

Stormy weekend

Very blustery all day yesterday, and it looks like a repeat for today. Went to support the less fortunate at a cake parade, and came home with a carrot cake. Perfect for our evening company.Had a couple games of cards last night, Loverboy and the Hyper one won. Lady hardly recognized me in a turtleneck. She likes my cleavage she says. Later we had some live entertainment with the Karaoke. Non-singers opted to watch the hockey game. Things were at its best when the hostess, recuperating from a cold, used her Tennessee voice, and she and Lady sang D-I-V-O-R-C-E .... although Lady once spelled device. Much laughter and hard to regain composure.

Making news

Snow. Cobequid pass impassable. 1500 vehicles spent the night there. Come on now ? Is there any need. More snow coming too. Good grief.

Community service Minister Judy Stretch.... she's always in the news. From the SUV in the ditch, to the irate man going to court cause he'd likely kill her if he got to spend 5 minutes with her... to the bill for Starbucks coffee and Perrier water at meetings. I have been to that office more than once, and was never offered a darn thing. No coffee, no water, no money. I could tell the news that on the golf course she gladly accepted a shot of French Kiss from me and my partner. They're always eager for any dirt on her.

I am finished my dickie.

The sailor has 3 used copies of his book... selling at a discount price of $79 to $ 150 a copy on Amazon. Be sure to get your copy today! Mine is in my safety deposit box.

I called 1-800-HLP-PAMMY tonight . She's my informant when I am feeling uninformed. She's the brave one thinking of a trip to the city. She, the one who would cancel almost anything at the sight a snowflake.

I scared her with my unfounded weather report..... straight from Ti-Pauls know-it-all coffee drinking patrons. So, for those wondering about travel... check out the highway cams at: http://www.gov.ns.ca/tran/cameras/camera.asp

Trivia is starting up again. Tuesday nights. Same host, same game, new place. The bar at the Colony restaurant. Hmmm..... very interesting. I wonder if its all the same nerds going. No harm intended, as I am one of those nerds.

Happy Birthday Ldot

27 !! Holy shit !! That's it ?!!!
Now let me tell you about the number 27.
27 is the natural number following 26 and preceding 28. hehe. Pretty exciting stuff .
At age 27:
Henry David Thoreau went off for two years to live alone in a cabin at Walden Pond.
Ernest Hemingway published his first novel, The Sun Also Rises.
Jimi Hendrix choked to death on his own vomit after ingesting wine and sleeping pills.
Janis Joplin died of an overdose of whiskey and heroin.

On that last note, I am glad you are pregnant and not drinking . Have a great birthday and best wishes for many, many more. !

Rainy Sunday

If this weather keeps up I might finish that dickie I have been knitting for the past two winters. Son #2 asked what I was knitting. I said it's called a dickie. He said " Mom , that sounds a bit like a bad word."

JFK

Discovery channel is supposed to have a program about JFK's assassination and new technological discoveries."JFK: Inside the Target Car" on Sunday, Nov. 16, at 9 p.m. ET/PT

Top 5 JFK Assassination Theories
5. The Mafia -- A few theorists have come to the conclusion that the president's assassination was a mafia plot and Lee Harvey Oswald was the hit man.
4. The Soviet Union -- Some suggest the assassination of Kennedy was actually a KGB plot carried out by Oswald, who had a Russian wife.
3. Fidel Castro -- A German documentary claims that Oswald met with Cuban agents in Mexico and volunteered to assassinate the president.
2. The Grassy Knoll -- Only one location gets as much discussion as the book depository: the grassy knoll, a fenced-off area near an underpass on one end of Dealey Plaza.
1. The Inside Job -- Our last theory blames the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) for masterminding the assassination of JFK.

Littlest

Saw the Littlest last night. She has grown quite a bit. She's was laid back in her bath, just-a-lounging away. I placed her in Loverboy's arms. Gave me warm and cozy memories to see him holding a baby, (although our sleepers weren't pink). One of my fondest memories is of Loverboy walking around the bedroom in the middle of the night, naked, with our new son snuggled on his chest, after he had brought him to me to be fed. He was jiggling him, & kissing him, and I then knew he would be a great Dad.

Last night he said the Littlest weighed nothing & our boys weighed more than she when they were born, and he's right. He found her too small to hold, and I was more than pleased to take her from him as I think she's very snugly.... and cute.

Her mom was on TV for a brief minute, on famous faces on Live at 5 news. I had sent in her photo, saying that she resembled Ellen DeGeneres, and that even the lieutenant governor of NS, had told her that. I missed it on TV, but will catch it Monday am, from 6 to 7, on ASN, when they play repeat episodes of Live at 5. She should be on around 6:40 or so.

canadian Tire money

I heard a rumor that Canadian Tire is gong to get rid of their "money" and we should cash ours in. Is this true? Does anybody know?

I see on ebay someone is selling $15.00 of canadian tire money. The bids are up to $12.91, and the buyer must pay $2.46 for shipping.

I was pretty good at math when I was younger.... maybe things have changed.

Monopoly

Been playing a game of Monopoly every night on http://www.pogo.com/. Been lots of fun, even won once. Tonight I came 3rd place of 4 .... and afterwards in the game stats I ranked #1 in biggest slowpoke....

Ca c'est point nice!

It's official

Yep, I am now another year older as of 7:50 am. I have been so depressed about this birthday, I feel like a big sookie. Anyway, gotta suck it all up, and embrace it. I read Ldot's blog, who mentioned my birthday, and I really got a kick out of her attempt to entertain me with some facts about the number 45. Sad thing is... there's nothing too funny or educational about it, is there? I got lots of nice wishes, a dinner invitation, gifts and a cake from my sis. My fav card was from the Cook.... To an Aunt who is smart, sunny, and downright cool. And inside it says .... So how come I was the only one to inherit your traits? Anyone who knows us both, knows we are similar. We both get told so everyday.

Loverboy calls, and Hallelujah, he's coming home tonight. I have missed him, as he was gone a long time. Can't wait to get my arms around him....

So, my mood is improving.... and I get a homemade thank you card from school. It has a pumpkin on it, and a tombstone that reads... "RIP Charlene".

Fitting for today's mood I guess.

Have a nice day

That scammer called me again this afternoon. My mom was visiting and my son # 2 was in the room. I felt my pressure rise when I saw the number on my caller ID. I pick up.
" Hi Charlene ! This is .... "

"Will you F... off ! "was my reply, and it was loud enough to be heard throughout the Tri-counties, and make my Mom's jaw drop, and son's eyes get as big as saucers. I hope they get the hint. Tonight I overheard my son tell his brother .... "hey, mom said the F word today on the phone... really loud too. " Best part was that son #1 didn't really think that I did. hehe

So ???? what about that Do Not Call List I am supposed to be on.... do they have a support line?

Caller ID: 1-813-374-0160 / 0164

Scam from Florida... very annoying indeed. Very nice people, telling you YOU WON ! a trip to Universal studios. They know your email and your number obviously. After the third day, I told the lady, I already been notified. Carl called me yesterday.
"Well," she said, "all your info isn't here, but I'll gladly get it so you can come to Universal Studios!"

"Lady ! I am so excited ! I tell ya, my f......g bags are already packed." and I hung up.

Card game report

"bunch of idiots" played cards. Fairly quiet without the hyper one, but his betterhalf enjoyed the break, I overheard as she muttered under her breath. Talk of love and marriage. ... or I guess, it was just talk of marriage. Enough to fluster Lady Di perhaps, as she got the Emy award of the night. A game of whist ensued, and the new players beat the old pros.... for the first game.

100 days on deep, blue sea

From this morning's paper: ~~Canadian sailor Derek Hatfield embarks on global, solo yacht race. Today he takes the Algimouss Spirit of Canada on the 100-day Vendee Globe solo yacht race.
When it comes to storing food for a three-month race around the world, solo sailor Derek Hatfield has it in the bag.
Literally.
Hatfield has packed 100 big baggies of food onboard Algimouss Spirit of Canada — one for each day he expects to be sailing. Each bag contains 4,000 to 5,000 calories he needs to consume every day of the arduous journey.
"I need to be back in 100 days," laughed Hatfield during a telephone interview from France on Thursday.
The rules of the Vendee Globe are simple: one boat, one sailor, non-stop around the world. ~~

Learn something new every day

Ever get a missed call on your cell, and it's a phone number, that you don't recognize, and you wonder who the heck that number belongs to? Or see a strange number on your bill, and think "I never called that number".

Well, if that number is a land line... finding out is easy. Reverse phone lets you type in the number and the person's name comes up. Pretty cool... who knew ?

Feeling Old

It hardly seems fair that I will soon have my 45th birthday. You see, I got mixed up with my age in back in March. I thought I was 43, and was OK with that. Loverboy announces that there's no way I can be 43... he was right! I am 44. Well I'll be darn. So now, I have practically just found out I'm 44, and will be 45 in a few days. Holy Shit. I can't go on ageing at this rate. 5 years goes fast ... so I'll be 50 in no time, and I am not mature enough to be 50!

Laugh lines aren't so funny, breasts are going south, or east and west depending on the position, and I can fall asleep on the lazy boy during the news. Those pillow lines at 6:15 take until 8am to smooth out. Soon I'll be feeding the birds all winter, and will have the bird book and binoculars on the table. I always felt that the obsession with feeding birds was a sign of getting older.

Good grief.

Hey Sis

here's a link to a free sample for some heel balm.... not that I would tell the Internet world about your rough , cracked, calloused feet....

November Rain

Yup it's raining, and the sailor told me that bad weather was headed our way. I have yet to watch the weather forecast, but i'd say he's a reliable source, given his global positioning right now.

Spent 4 hours at the Mic mac mall yesterday. Things were a bit christmasy.... but no holiday music, and cashiers were all friendly. The one at Winners was about to slip into a coma. If I hadn't of wanted that sweater so bad, I would have plunked my stuff down in front of her and left. And where are the suggestion boxes for these stores? Hiding?

So Ldot, a blog reader of mine, and vice versa, is expecting baby #2. Well congrats to her and the entire family. What excitement they have had lately. All that "turbulence" likely to produce a child with a strong character, ....as some of that family are known to have...hehe.

Tried to see the Littlest..... but too much of a sleepy head again tonight.

He did it

Obama wins, and becomes the first african-american president.
Part of his speech:

~~I know you didn’t do this just to win an election and I know you didn’t do it for me. You did it because you understand the enormity of the task that lies ahead. For even as we celebrate tonight, we know the challenges that tomorrow will bring are the greatest of our lifetime – two wars, a planet in peril, the worst financial crisis in a century. Even as we stand here tonight, we know there are brave Americans waking up in the deserts of Iraq and the mountains of Afghanistan to risk their lives for us. There are mothers and fathers who will lie awake after their children fall asleep and wonder how they’ll make the mortgage, or pay their doctor’s bills, or save enough for college. There is new energy to harness and new jobs to be created; new schools to build and threats to meet and alliances to repair.
The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even one term, but America – I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you – we as a people will get there.~~

My American Neighbours

I am equally, or even a bit more, excited about this election today, than you are. For too many months, it's all we have seen or heard. Not just on news, or in the papers, and debates, but everwhere from Saturday Night Live, to bugs bunny. .. well ok, maybe not Bugs. At last, we get our lives back.

History will be made, yes we know. Either Barack Obama will become the first African-American president, or Sarah Palin will become the first female vice president. Hopefully the new president will call our prime minister for tips on getting an election up, and running, and OVER, in record time.

Trivia about today's election next door:

• If McCain wins, he will be the first president from Arizona.
• If McCain wins, he will have headed the first successful GOP presidential ticket in 80 years that did not include someone named Bush or Nixon.
• If Obama wins, he will be the third president from Illinois. The first two: Abraham Lincoln (elected in 1860 and 1864) and Ulysses S. Grant (elected in 1868 and 1872).
• If Obama wins, he will be the 27th lawyer to become president. Bill Clinton was the last lawyer elected president, and the first was John Adams.

How do I love thee ?

How do I love thee snowflake?

Let me count the ways.

1. I love thee falling in provinces other than Nova Scotia.

2. I love thee inside a snow cloud.

3. I love thee inside a snow globe.

Most of all I love thee, when you are still H2O.

What a great day

8:30 am and it's already proving out to be a great day.
The time goes back 1 hour tonight. Finally, the sun will rise sooner. I don't mind having supper in the dark, but I hate having breakfast in the dark, and having to drive son #2 to the bus, with my lights on high beam. I love getting up early with the sun rise
Hallowe'en has passed. Yahoo. Only one son went Halloweening, and that was enough. Tons of dark dressed kids on the road, only thing bright was when they mooned ! hehe. After all, what's Halloween without a full moon.

It's Saturday, and that means the weekend. It's going to be a whopping 4 degrees tomorrow. I bought new socks yesterday, speaking of the cold.

Son #1 has been playing a new tune on the piano. It sounds really good, It's called Apologize, by One Republic. I could sit, watch and listen to him all day. I love hearing him play throughout the house.

Sis and the gang are coming over later this morning.

My oven is going to get fixed ! The repair man said I need a new thermostat. I knew it wasn't heating good. It heats 150 degrees less than it shows. That's why my shake and bake chicken was barely cooked, after 1.5 hours at 400. I was cooking it at 250 in reality. Today for dinner I'm making a mock pot roast casserole. It's delicious. 1 and a half hours at 525 degrees.
