Filicide

~~
Don’t kid yourself. Filicide — the death of a child at the hands of a parent — happens more often than we think, even in good and gentle Canada. And while we spend considerable time and effort street-proofing our children to be alert to potential harm at the hands of a stranger, 80 per cent of children murdered in Canada are killed by a parent.
Parents, in fact, are often viewed by police as the first potential suspects when a child is killed. The statistics point in their direction.
There is some conflicting information, but there is general agreement that in filicide cases, mothers are more likely to kill infant children, while fathers are more likely to kill older children and also more likely to commit suicide after the fact.
Cases of paternal filicide are often linked to domestic murder-suicides in which more than one child may be killed, along with the children’s mother.
The researchers found that overall, cases of filicide in Canada rose by a startling 100 per cent between 1988 and 1997.
In 2002, Dr. Dick Sobsey of the University of Alberta found that 80 per cent of children murdered in Canada had been killed by one or both parents. In the United States, his research indicates, the comparative figure is 55 per cent.
On Friday morning, Boudreau arrived in court for her day of reckoning, dressed in dark garb that happened to neatly set off the bright gold cross around her neck. Please, spare me the public displays of tardy jailhouse conversions.
Her only words, barely audible: "I’m sorry."
I’m sorry, too. I’m sorry for that beautiful little girl.~~

Limping Redneck

Saw the limping redneck today. At Wendy's. Ordering gumdrop cake.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Gotcha !

Valentine coupons

Valentine's day is around the corner. Here's a link to some printable coupons for your own Loverboy. I checked it out, thery are near the bottom half of the page. Not sure, but you may just right click and print image.

How do you call your Loverboy?

I say come here lover boy..... ha ha

speechless

Yes, pretty speechless we all are today, as we heard the details of a mother who killed her daughter. She may have given birth to that child, but she wasn't no mother. What goes around comes around, and no one will hold a candle light vigil for the mother if she gets what she deserves as she serves her time behind bars.

Hey Don

Don Diamont, if you come across this, give me a call. I hear you are leaving the Young and Restless, my Loverboy is away, and I am free for a couple nights.

BINGO WOES

You'll never hear me knock those cigarette smoking, dauber & scotch tape toting, kill a newcomer if they win, Bingo addicts. Nope , not me.

I went to Bingo last week. I lost $19 bucks. I did gain something however.... and it wasn't a love for the game. I learned that Bingo is hard work!. You gotta keep quiet, not dot the wrong numbers, and keep an eye on lines, and corners too!. Does the whole world realize that a regular bingo is 2 lines.... not one? Who would have invented such a thing? Did they meet and say " Let's make them need 2 Bingo's and all the newcomers will never win." Some women had four times the number of cards as I did. After an eternity of playing, I looked up, and 45 minutes had passed. Only 2 hours left. My greatest fear: saying Bingo and hearing," sorry that is not a good Bingo".

good news

Well, whatever I have isn't the big "ca". Doctor told me today. It's healed too much to be cancer. He was really good, showed me the scans I have had, and the changes in the images, and the radiologists report. He showed me the trouble spot, and I could see what he was talking about. He said he was relieved, and now he's not going to move up the date for the colonoscopy.
Whew !.... and he felt relieved ?

Sick with ?

Better to be sick with envy, than sick with the unknown. Headed back to hospital today for another scan, to see if I have healed very much. Doctor now thinks that I don't have what he initially thought. I have something else. Exactly what, remains unknown, until he can get in and have a peek. Then again, he said he could be wrong. Time will tell. Thanks to the hostess, loverboy, and mom, for the offer of a ride and company today, but I'll go by myself, it will clear my head, and I'll feel better knowing no one is bored to death waiting for me.

Sick with envy

Envious of the Sailor and Mrs. L. Basking in the warm Bahamas. Swimming in a heated pool, and sitting in a pool bar having a drink. My favorite bar of all!

Today, although I did have fun, we went across the lake. The trip back was cold and snowy. I had ice built up on my eyelashes. Now that is cold!

Like some big wise man once said, "I'd rather have a mosquito on my bag, than a snowflake in the eye."

Free digital scrapbooking software

Gone to the dogs

I must have lost my mind. Today we had a birthday paw-ty for our dog , Sandee, as she is now 1. Invited 2 dog friends Dusty and Sam, and their families. Although the invite suggested " best wishes only", the guests were as creative as could be, and had gifts of toys and treats. One was even wrapped in brown paper, covered with paw prints. Tante and Nanny had adorable cards, and Sam had a "You're now 1 !" card for Sandee. Tante gave a photo of Sandee and myself. The pets ran in and out, and had a dog-gone good time. We served cake, and the girls left with lootbags, and the dogs left with a "doggie bag" of milkbones. Nemo the cat watched them leave from a distance, and he still seems to be a bit pissed off.

We'll get together again, in Quinan, when those dog days of summer return. Thanks to all.

Quite a game

We had friends over for the longest hand in history. The gang was lively, full of wisecracks, laughter, and smart remarks. Lots of talk of body parts and bodily functions, while the dog passed gas from underneath the table. The men compared chest hairs, but the women kept their tops down, all except one I guess. We all handled a plastic bra cup thingy, used to create cleavage. Quite a simple yet innovative idea. La Girl sang us a tune that darn near killed Lady Di. We shared a yummy bottle of Henkell ( I think it was a gift from the sailor and Mrs. L). It was very good, and I managed to break a glass after sipping the last drop and singing two lines of "I don't want to dance". Loverboy, who would make a good nurse, whoops ! I mean housekeeper, had the vacuum out before I even stood up. Some women love the sight of a man with a big wand.

At the end of the game the Prince reminded the Lady to pick up her breasts from the table before going home. A very good time indeed, just what the docteur ordered.

Happy Day, Loverboy and Obama

Yes, Happy birthday number 43 to my young Loverboy. ..

and of course I have to mention the new USA president, #44 , Barack Obama. History made today. I hear he's making his first trip out of the US as president, to visit us in good old cold Canada.

2 cents worth?

Would you dump or keep a giftcard with 2 cents left on it?

ldot would keep it, and so would I. Heck, I still pick up lucky pennies, and I won't vacuum them up either. My mother always said"a penny saved is a penny earned". I save our change, and roll it up, and deposit it into accounts for my kids. You'd be surprized how much 12 years has accumulated. Since playing "pay me" I do have to keep quarters handy however ... hehe. It's a slow profit , this card game, but no worst than our investments, eh?

Coke Commercial

Yep, this commercial is priceless. Don't worry about me, I don't spend much time on http://www.godtube.com/ . Avon Lady and The hostess, maybe. I psychic once told me that when I die, I will be very religious. So, I guess I am safe for a while yet.

GodTube.....Broadcast Him.

DeLatour Co-op

I must share my newest great thing. I already read the Co-op flyer online since I throw my flyers in the garbage. The great thing I recently discovered is their photo finishing for digital prints. You order them online, and in no time they are ready at the local co-op (3 - 4 days). Best thing is they are matte finish prints, for 19 cents a pic. Soooo convenient.

Just click on ....

Pics

Sandee, on our walk today, and the ice lanterns I made.

Hello

I'm back ! Feeling pretty good today and yesterday. Had a little stay in the hospital, got things back on track now, pain-free most of the time. Like everything .... it takes time. The stretchers in the ER overflow felt nothing like the beds at the Prince George. The pillows were no higher than my tea biscuits, and they are usually pretty impressive. I had arrived in work clothes to the ER, and was wearing a brown jacket with a leopard ( or some kind of beast) furry pattern on the inside. I hailed a woman with a kidney stone to give me my coat and turned it inside out. I snuggled up to that, it made a good pillow. In the middle of the night, after some morphine, I joked with a lab tech that I arrived to ER , straight from a fancy ball, hence the beautiful fur wrap. I hope I didn't say anything else too stupid.

Snow has taken us over, and even tho it has been picturesque, it's mainly one big headache. The kids, however, can fully dress themselves for the snow. It's the first year that they don't require assistance with snowpants and boots. And their wonderful Dad has trained them to come and go from the basement, and to put their stuff spread out to dry. This training has been as momentous as their first poo in the toilet. It's a beautiful thing. and... My socks no longer absorb puddles at the back door.
Speaking of puddles, at the latest card game, we spoke of how sensitive we all seem to be at times, now that we are 45+. Commercials can even tear us up, and TV shows especially. THEN... much to our surprise, Lady Di is crying like hell. All this talk made her cry. It was touching, yet hard not to laugh... too much. Yep, she's menopausal for sure ! Kleenex for gifts at her next birthday. .... and a new crockpot. Hehe.

Watched some of Planet Earth. Another beautiful thing.

There's not much substance to puffed rice.

The littlest has been growing and changing. She was all smiles for me today when I visited. Yet another beautiful thing.

How's Life treating Ya?

To quote Norm, from the bar stool at Cheers...

Coach: How's life treating you Norm?

Norm: Like it caught me in bed with its wife.

Cabinet shuffle

So, our MLA is no longer health minister, being replaced by Karen Casey. That'll be interesting. Wonder if we'll finish the "project" we are supposedly working on together.

And he's going to Community Services, and I'm OK with that.

Judy Streatch, my favorite minister to blog about, is going to education. What wonderful news for the schools ! Perrier water and fine coffee in the staff rooms!
I read one person's comments on the cabinet shuffle ..." just like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic".

Congrats to winner

So, the tag winner of $100,000 was a young west-sider. Good for him ! Seems to be a bit of luck in this region lately. Can't win without a ticket, can you now.

For all mothers

If you are a mom, or even if you aren't, you will get a chuckle from this 2 minute song. It's all a mother says in 24 hours, wrapped up in a two minute song. It's priceless. I heard myself in there, and I heard my own mom (Love ya mom!) in there too, at the part about the cliff, and a reason part.
