Pay Me Report

Yes, yes, yes... the women's winning average has just gone up. Now we chicks have won 60% of games played. I won the final game, right to the final card, by 1 point. Sorry newphie. It caught me by surprise too. The table was full, and the pay was good. I got rid of my M&M change tin, it was no good.... too small, & too funny. We've seen and heard a lot at the card table in the past two years but until last night we never had anyone actually get down on their knees and pray. No they weren't praying for good cards, they were praying for a day off. Now for the important news.... A hair raising announcement was made at the table, the hostess is getting a prosthesis. Good for you. If you aren't sure where to put it, call the Lady.

So far away

Another song from one of my favorite entertainers.... Carole King and her piano.

Ring ! Ring !

So, any truth to the idea of running a the band of a gold ring down your cheek, to tell you if you have low iron? If it leaves a black mark, that needs to washed off, supposedly your iron is low. Guess I must be ok.

All I was left with was a slight feeling of naivety.

Iceland Info for travellers

WILL MY CELL PHONE WORK IN ICELAND?
Most North American cell phones won’t work because Iceland is on the European system, but you can rent phones in Iceland.
Iceland’s country code is +354. If you are calling Iceland from Canada, dial 011 to get an international line, then 354 and the 7-digit phone number. When you are in Iceland, you just need to dial the 7-digit phone number. There are no area codes in Iceland.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Alcohol is heavily taxed and is almost certainly more expensive than you are used to, but other than that the costs are probably similar to big cities around the world, like New York or London. Tipping is not customary in Iceland for any service, including restaurants and taxis, so the price listed is the total price you will pay.
WHAT ABOUT THE ELECTRICITY?
Icelandic electrical standards are European (50Hz, 220 volts) so all North American electrical devices will require plug adapters. These are usually available at airports. For the converters, it’s best to buy one in North America and bring it with you.
WHAT IS INTERNET ACCESS LIKE?
Iceland is a very tech-savvy country with one of the highest rates of Internet usage in the world. If you didn’t bring a computer, you’ll find internet cafés in the bigger towns and hotels. Many restaurants and cafés, especially in Reykjavik, have free wifi access, so if you have a laptop you can get Internet access almost everywhere.

Cows... manure vs hide

All day I had been smelling cow manure. I was in Yarmouth ,and I know, that on occasion, the manure smell drifts over from the fields on the other side of the harbour. But when I got in my hometown, I still smelled it. Cow manure. Now there may be a lot of BS in this small village, but there isn't much cow manure. My shoes were clean, and the best I could figure out, I must have ran over a patty. When I got home from work, I pulled off my socks as usual. The dog was so intrigued with them, and was smelling them and rubbing his face on them. Yup, they smelled like shit. The culprit is my new leather shoes. They smell like cow. So tell me, what stinks on the farm? Cow shit, or cow hide?

Iceland Info

~~ Visitors will find Iceland is a classless society with a strong literary tradition.
An Icelander is called by his first name because his surname is made up of his father's Christian name plus ‘son' or ‘daughter' (eg John, the son of Magnus, would be called John Magnusson, while John's sister, Mary, would be known as Mary Magnusdóttir). People are addressed as Fru (Mrs) and Herra (Mr). Visitors will often be invited to homes, especially if on business, and normal courtesies should be observed. Icelanders pay careful attention to their appearance and, as for most Western countries, casual wear is widely acceptable although unsuitable for smart and social functions. ~~
National specialities:• Skyr (a smooth and creamy kind of yoghurt).
• Hangikjot (smoked lamb).
• Harðfiskur (dried fish).
• A delicacy not for the squeamish is hákarl (putrefied shark), usually washed down with a shot of Black Death Schnapps.
• Pylsur (hot dog) is every Icelanders' favourite fast food.
National drink:• Brennivin (a potent variation of aquavit made from potatoes).
Tipping: Service charges are included in most bills and extra tips are not expected.
Nightlife
There are plenty of nightclubs, bars, cafes and cinemas in Iceland, most of them in the capital. Reykjavík is renowned as one of Europe's hottest nightspots where the friendly pubs and social scene last through the night. Icelandic nightlife is particularly vibrant from June to August when there is nearly 24 hours of daylight.
Shopping
Fluffy, earth-coloured Lopi wool blankets and coats, jackets, hats and handknits are synonymous with Iceland. Several local potters handthrow earthenware containers in natural colours. Crushed lava is a common addition to highly glazed ceramic pieces, which are popular as souvenirs. The duty-free shop at Keflavík Airport sells all of these products. Laugavegur is Reykjavík's main shopping street. The shops along Skolavordustigur are good for art lovers. Kringlan is Reykjavík's world-class shopping mall. Bargain hunters should visit the indoor Kolaportid market in Reykjavík, held every weekend, where great buys on handmade Icelandic jumpers, food and toys can be found.
Shopping hours: Mon-Fri 0900-1800; Sat from 1000-1300/1400/1500 or 1600. Most shops close on Sundays, and many shops also close on Saturdays during the summer (Jun-Aug).

Shoppers & Tim

This weekend, May 30-31, you can get a free $10 Quickpay Tim Card from Shoppers Drug Mart when you spend $50 or more.
As always, there is some fine print: “Excludes prescription purchases, Shoppers Optimum Bonus Points, products that contain codeine, tobacco products (where applicable), lottery tickets, stamps, transit tickets and passes, event tickets, electronic gift cards, prepaid phone cards, Life Experiences packages and Shoppers Home Health Care locations.”

64

I've been on a Beatles kick since the news that Sir Paul will be visiting. Here's the cutest video, "when I'm 64"

Like it, weather or not

Weather... now there's a topic. It's so cold out today, makes you wonder if it's December. I have been Christmas shopping in warmer weather! Going to Iceland can't be any worse than these cool temperatures. And what exactly is hanging over our heads? It's cloudy and dark every day, so it seems. Is the end of the earth near? I read that we should only do housework on sunny days... well there would be a pile of dust and dirt in this house, if I had to wait for the sun to shine.

New toys

Well, we as parents have got to get together and dream up a new line of toys for children. It's obvious, just about anything sells. They now have on the market Giantmicrobes to sell. Germs of all kinds, in a "somewhat" lovable stuffed animal type teddy. What's wrong with the good old teddy bear? Check it out. Our friend MSRA is there, so is toxic mold ,and even the Clap is there.

Hard or Soft?

No, I'm not talking tacos here.... I'm talking about your water. Order a test strip from Morton's salt to find out just how hard your water is.

Pay me report

Well I am not too sure how the percentage stands at the moment.... but it looks like 50% have been won by women. We are slowly losing ground.

Love was in the air once again, along with the topic of wife swap TV show. Some thought the idea quite appealing. The Prince gave us a quick reminder that some of us can be delusional. His comment got applause and a darn near standing ovation. Oh he's an easy going guy!... agrees to just about anything.... as long as it hasn't got a ring to it.

Hank Snow vs Bob Dylan

I thought this was interesting... The sailor, who is always quoting various artists, may know the song.
A Dylan "poem" on sale was actually Hank Snow song
~~A "poem" purportedly written by a teenage Bob Dylan and up for auction at Christie's is actually a song written by the late Canadian country singer Hank Snow, the auction house said on Wednesday.
The sale of the hand-written poem believed to have been written in 1957 when Dylan was 16 and away at Jewish camp.
But the words, with a few minor variations, matched those of a song previously recorded by Snow, who died in 1999 at age 85.

"Additional information has come to our attention about the handwritten poem submitted by Bob Dylan to his camp newspaper, written when he was 16, entitled 'Little Buddy.' The words are in fact a revised version of lyrics of a Hank Snow song,".
"This still remains among the earliest known handwritten lyrics of Bob Dylan & will be offered in a Pop Culture auction on June 23."
The manuscript had been expected to fetch $10,000 to $15,000.
Christie's said Dylan, still using his given name Robert Zimmerman, signed the piece Bobby Zimmerman and submitted it to the Herzl Camp newspaper. The editor of the paper kept it for more than 50 years and recently donated it to Herzl Camp, a Jewish camp in Wisconsin.
Written in blue ink on both sides of a single sheet of paper, it reads in part, "But I'll meet my precious buddy up in the sky/ By a tiny narrow grave/ Where the willows sadly wave." Those words and others match the Snow song.
The Hank Snow Country Music Center lists the "Little Buddy" lyrics and music as by Snow but does not provide a year. The fan site rocky-52.net says it was released in November 1948 as a 78 on RCA Victor.
Dylan's management office had no immediate comment.
Born Clarence Eugene Snow in Nova Scotia in 1914, Snow quit school at 12 to work as a cabin boy on fishing schooners, according to the web site of The Hank Snow Country Music Center in Liverpool, Nova Scotia.
With that early income, he bought his first guitar and entertained crew and friends before getting his own radio show with a Halifax, Nova Scotia radio station in 1933.
There he changed his name to "Hank, The Yodelling Ranger" and played county fairs and local radio stations throughout Canada in the 30s and 40s.
Dylan, who was born Robert Allen Zimmerman in 1941, grew up in Minnesota and was known to be an eager young fan of many types of music including country. He went on to become a folk and rock legend and one of the greatest popular song-writers of all time.

So there...

The weather has been extremely nice and I haven't really seen many flies. I have been taking my sneakers out for a walk every day, and also been on my bike now that Loverboy fixed my bike. I was blond when I was young, and I appear very blond when it comes to my bike and the brakes. My front brakes were seized up again, and Loverboy fixed them by turning my handle bars and front wheel around twice. Nope, I never noticed the brake lines were pulled tight and wrapped around the shaft. Too, too blond. A real idiot.

Obituary etiquette? Is there such a thing? There should be. The Chronicle had layoffs, maybe it was in the obit dept.

Briars? You know... des piquons? How do I rid of them forever. I have been clipping them and am full of scratches. I hate to see them grow. How do I kill them?

Thank you friend, for your willingness to participate in criminal activity. Your willingness and expertise, although not needed, is appreciated. He's right... you'll never grow up.

Marriage jokes

Why are hurricanes normally named after women? When they come they're wild and wet, but when they go they take your house and car with them.

Why do men chase women they have no intention of marrying? For the same reason dogs chase cars they have no intention of driving.

Single women claim that all the good men are married, while all married women complain about their lousy husbands. This confirms that there is no such thing as a good man.

Tying the knot ?

Well if you are, good luck to you...haha... just kidding. You can request a free catalogue.... and lady Di , that means you as well. We have no plans in August, and it would give us something to do. We can BBQ, and sing karaoke for the entertainment. You can wed on the dock at the lake, and then jump in. Something real casual, and fun, so you won't cry.

Get your free hamburger

May 24th, at Harvey's, you can get a free original burger from 10:30-3:00 in honor of Harvey's Original Hamburger Day!

Mulroney paid taxes on only half of the cash he received in that big fat envelope at the Montreal airport. Am I supposed to be surprised? I think he did pretty good to pay taxes on half. And yes, he should have been paid by cheque, but what the heck...
Oh, flick the TV channel, the magic bullet infomercial is much better.

Speaking of TV.... can you believe that Jon and Kate are having marriage troubles, and he is seeing a 23 year old? Just so hard to believe a marriage would struggle when they only have 8 kids. Imagine the child support. Bet his girlfriend will panic when it's Jon's weekend to have the kids. 8 step-children! Get you sneakers on Chicky, and run in the other direction!

All over Canada tonight, couples will be making more love than usual. Finally there's no hockey game .

Olivieri Pasta.... have you seen the commercial? They keep dirtying their clothes, and seductively removing them. You see the washer and laundry basket. I just found out it was a food commercial and not a Tide to go. Easy to tell she's not married to him, and has no intentions of washing the floor or doing laundry.

I'm Back !

For those who regularly check my blog... I am back. Been busy with soccer, and other stuff. Have missed the littlest and will soon pop in for a visit, but not tonight, as we have soccer again. I have a few posts ready for my blog, and hopefully tonight, I will post them.

Conceive Ovulation Test Kit

Here's a conceive test kit, for those of you who would like to. My factory is closed, but I did have a dream of a cute little baby boy, maybe a month old, all snuggled up on me. His parents were late to show up, and I said I would keep him, and adopt him, if need be. In reality, I can think of a couple people whom I would like to see in the family way. One , of course, belongs to my "in-law" family, and the other is the cinnamon girl. I think she could expand on a little spice rack of her own. ha ha.

Happy Mother's day

Happy mother's Day to all mom's reading this. We all have endless chores, love, patience, and healing powers . We love our children more than life itself. When I was a new mom, I couldn't get enough of looking at my sons, studying their faces and bodies, their reactions. I wondered if that need to observe them so much ever went away. it's like a fascination. I now know that it must never go away. One son is now taller than me, and I still marvel at him. It's definitely the most rewarding job on earth.

Happy B-day Sis-in-law

Was by to see the birthday girl tonite, and the Littlest. Just like a new mother, she only remembered her birthday yesterday. What is it they say about having a baby? 9 months up and 9 months down.... It takes your body and brain, nine months to recuperate ( that is debatable, I know) .Our boys made the Littlest giggle and we watched her play. She is very alert and doesn't miss a trick. There is nothing is cuter than a giggling baby, now is there?
