The littlest was here yesterday. She was so funny, and full of laughter (until she left). The big news is that she took 6 steps all by her lonesome ! Not once ! But twice !

AND as you know, it leaves no ring around the tub ! I am a fan of their bubble bath, and their 99 cent deodorant, if you must know. There you can contact the Pubnico and area Avon lady, Rose, and she'll look after you. This order goes out Sept 13th.

Julia Child's Beef Bourguignon

Obviously I went to see the movie.... Julie and Julia. It was good.
Here is one of the recipes most mentioned in the movie. I just may try it. it will have to be on a Saturday or Sunday as it is too lenghty to whip up quickly. I'll call you over for a taste.

Ingredients
One 6-ounce piece of chunk bacon
3 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
3 pounds lean stewing beef, cut into 2-inch cubes
1 carrot, sliced
1 onion, sliced
Salt and pepper
2 tablespoons flour
3 cups red wine, young and full-bodied (like Beaujolais, Cotes du Rhone or Burgundy)
2 1/2 to 3 1/2 cups brown beef stock
1 tablespoon tomato paste
2 cloves mashed garlic
1/2 teaspoon thyme
A crumbled bay leaf
18 to 24 white onions, small
3 1/2 tablespoons butter
Herb bouquet (4 parsley sprigs, one-half bay leaf, one-quarter teaspoon thyme, tied in cheesecloth)
1 pound mushrooms, fresh and quartered
Cooking Directions
Remove bacon rind and cut into lardons (sticks 1/4-inch thick and 1 1/2 inches long). Simmer rind and lardons for 10 minutes in 1 1/2 quarts water. Drain and dry.
Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
Sauté lardons in 1 tablespoon of the olive oil in a flameproof casserole over moderate heat for 2 to 3 minutes to brown lightly. Remove to a side dish with a slotted spoon.
Dry beef in paper towels; it will not brown if it is damp. Heat fat in casserole until almost smoking. Add beef, a few pieces at a time, and sauté until nicely browned on all sides. Add it to the lardons.
In the same fat, brown the sliced vegetables. Pour out the excess fat.
Return the beef and bacon to the casserole and toss with 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper.
Then sprinkle on the flour and toss again to coat the beef lightly. Set casserole uncovered in middle position of preheated oven for 4 minutes.
Toss the meat again and return to oven for 4 minutes (this browns the flour and coves the meat with a light crust).
Remove casserole and turn oven down to 325 degrees.
Stir in wine and 2 to 3 cups stock, just enough so that the meat is barely covered.
Add the tomato paste, garlic, herbs and bacon rind. Bring to a simmer on top of the stove.
Cover casserole and set in lower third of oven. Regulate heat so that liquid simmers very slowly for 3 to 4 hours. The meat is done when a fork pierces it easily.
While the beef is cooking, prepare the onions and mushrooms.
Heat 1 1/2 tablespoons butter with one and one-half tablespoons of the oil until bubbling in a skillet.
Add onions and sauté over moderate heat for about 10 minutes, rolling them so they will brown as evenly as possible. Be careful not to break their skins. You cannot expect them to brown uniformly.
Add 1/2 cup of the stock, salt and pepper to taste and the herb bouquet.
Cover and simmer slowly for 40 to 50 minutes until the onions are perfectly tender but hold their shape, and the liquid has evaporated. Remove herb bouquet and set onions aside.
Wipe out skillet and heat remaining oil and butter over high heat. As soon as you see butter has begun to subside, indicating it is hot enough, add mushrooms.
Toss and shake pan for 4 to 5 minutes. As soon as they have begun to brown lightly, remove from heat.
When the meat is tender, pour the contents of the casserole into a sieve set over a saucepan.
Wash out the casserole and return the beef and lardons to it. Distribute the cooked onions and mushrooms on top.
Skim fat off sauce in saucepan. Simmer sauce for a minute or 2, skimming off additional fat as it rises. You should have about 2 1/2 cups of sauce thick enough to coat a spoon lightly.
If too thin, boil it down rapidly. If too thick, mix in a few tablespoons stock. Taste carefully for seasoning.
Pour sauce over meat and vegetables. Cover and simmer 2 to 3 minutes, basting the meat and vegetables with the sauce several times.
Serve in casserole, or arrange stew on a platter surrounded with potatoes, noodles or rice, and decorated with parsley.

Swingers

Seems to be a lot of talk these days about swingers. I don't know about you readers, but it seems like an awful lot of work. To prepare this flawless body for a new set of slow hands, I would need a full year of advance notice. Other than Loverboy, the only people who screw me on a regular basis, is the provincial government, and, I get no satisfaction from the latter. Their foreplay is usually so long that I actually start to lose interest, the session itself gets me wondering about the motive, and they usually pull out too soon, without notice, leaving me bewildered and in a mess.

~~A Martian couple landed on the earth. The emerged from their spacecraft and went up to a farmhouse. They knocked on the door. When the farmer and his wife answered, they announced that they were from Mars and wanted to come in to chat. The farm couple extended their hospitality and they all seemed to hit it off well. After a while, the farmer said "Do you two swing?"
The martian replied, "yes", and so they swapped mates and adjourned for appropriate activity.
After the martian man had climbed on, he said to the earth woman, "Is my dick long enough?"
She replied, "Well, now that you mention it, I would like it a little longer."
He said "no problem" and proceded to twist his left ear and, like magic, his dick got longer. "How's that now?"
"One notch more" said the woman.
Her request was promptly complied with via another twist of the left ear. His next question was "Would you like it a little thicker?"
She replied "yes" and he twisted his right ear once. The woman said "That's perfect!" and they proceeded to bang away.
The next morning the earth couple were comparing experiences and the husband said "how was it for you?" The wife replied, "Super! How about you?"
The husband responded, "It was pretty good, but she damn near twisted my ears off!"

Songbird by Fleetwood Mac

Been a long time since I heard this song. Really nice. I must get son #1 to learn it.

For you, there'll be no more crying,

For you, the sun will be shining,

And I feel that when Im with you,

Its alright, I know its right

To you, Ill give the world

To you, Ill never be cold

cause I feel that when

Im with you,Its alright, I know its right.

And the songbirds are singing,

Like they know the score,

And I love you, I love you, I love you,

Like never before.

And I wish you all the love in the world,

But most of all, I wish it from myself.

Hurricane naming

More on naming hurricanes. I had to research more, as I was unsure how often the list was circulated.
~~In 1953....They started out just using female names, and this lasted over 25 years until in 1979, men's names were incorporated into the list. 1979 was also the first year that there was a full prechosen list of names. There were a total of six lists, and were repeated every six years. So there was a storm named Ana in 1979, and again in 1985, in 1991, in 1997, in 2003, in 2009, just before Bill. The lists would remain unchanged unless a storm would be severe enough to have the name retired. Examples of retired names include Andrew of 1992, Ivan of 2004, and David of 1979. Retired names will never be used again, and are always replaced by a name of the same letter and gender. Keep in mind that tropical depressions do not recieve names until if and when they reach tropical storm strength. ~~

Don't even think about it.

Don't get me one of these for Christmas, or for my birthday. And don't get one for Loverboy either. It must be the worst gift idea I have ever seen.
First of all, it's ugly, and it can carry up to 7 lbs ! WHO wants 7 lbs on your head ! And I am suppose to believe that the hat will not tip over !
I am in awe at this !

Indigestion anybody?

Here's a printable $2.00 off coupon for Pepcid complete.

Oh Sears ! I shouldn't make fun

I like to complain about Sears. My biggest complaint is about the number of sales they send out. What was wrong with the days when we got 3 catalogues... Spring and Summer, Fall and Winter, and the Wishbook. Wasn't that enough? Now every second day we have a sale. White sale, back to school sale, rock bottom deals sale, etc..

Online they are friggin up too. Check out their messed up department selection in the photo.

Great for the cannibal on your Christmas list.

bring it on, BILL

So hurricane Bill is creeping up the coast. Hopefully he'll run out of steam, or change his course.
I hate the wind.

Here are the list of the hurricane names for 2009.

Ana, Bill, Claudette, Danny boy, Erika, Fred Hines, Grace a Len, Henri, Ida, Joaquin, Kate, Larry, Mindy, Nicholas, Odette, Peter Loveridge, Rose a greg, Sam, Teresa, Victor, Wanda a Clarence.

And today's free sample is...

a colour catcher sheet.

I can live without this as I have my entire laundry life.

It's a sheet you throw in the washer and if your new red t-shirt runs, it won't run into your hubby's jeans, or turn that sock pink. The colour catcher sheet will catch it all.

I filled out the form, .... apparently for county, they would like our province's name, but the form is easy. Shipping in 14 days.

Ever wonder why?

Why is there such a thing as rap music?
Why do cars coming down the ramp race us when we are passing under the tusket overpass, headed towards yarmouth?
Why did Pepsi change their label to this newer stupid looking one?

Why can we go away for an entire weekend without a good poop, but as soon we get into the house, we have to "go"? Would one call this a "domesticated bowel"?

New Oven

Yes, at last, I have given up on the oven that wouldn't. I bought a new one today. It's not that it wouldn't heat, it's just 1 hour and 15 minutes for homemade pizza at 550 degrees was a bit unreasonable.

It all started gradually last year, and I was convinced that I could no longer cook. Everything I made failed in some way.

The first thing I will cook, is a blueberry pie, that the kids are waiting for. And I'll be able to roast a turkey instead of boiling that big bird. (although it was good and tender ).

OK sis, watch out ! I'm gonna make those homemade bagels !

Geotourism Map

Crown of the continent is offering a free National Geographic geotourism map.

Nice and easy form to complete.

Geotourism is for those who want to avoid tourist traps, and explore historic places and sites with natural history.

Some who are involved in geocaching will also appreciate a map as such, as I think geocaching spots are likely highlighted as well, but don't quote me on that.

Mile Long Yard Sale ; Sept 19th

So Summer has arrived

It took an awfully long time, but summertime did make an appearance. I did some camping in Quinan and had superwoman and her family down for a couple days. It was very nice. Went to a beanbag tournament, and had my brother as a partner. We thought we'd never last, but he was pretty good and we made it into the semifinals. This weekend I towed the camper to Belle Baie, and had a great time. My parents spent the night with us one night, and then Lady Di and the prince stayed a night as well. The weather was absolutely amazing. We picked high bush blueberries in 32 degree heat, 20 lbs in 25 minutes. it was hot ! Rode bikes, went to sing song, swam, and saw many friends. Had a nice walk on the shore, and even that water was remarkably warm. What a beautiful place.
So now I am on vacation this week, and am on a mission. Cleaning the camper, & getting dressers and closets weeded out. The boys grow so fast I can't keep up. Got the beets cooked and going to bottle tomorrow. They must be my favorite veggie. Too bad they are so messy. I always had pride in my bread and butter pickles, but that darn sis gave me a "fancy" bottle of hers, and now I suppose I should slice mine with a wave cutter as well. She's a cook extraordinaire, and I have fallen and can't keep up.

I also have a book to return to La Girl, (surely you will read this).

And a note to my neighbour.... you'll never believe this, but I don't have the school supplies yet. I know, you are in shock. I don't know what to say either.

Perfume sample

Decisions, decisions.... will it be "Desire Me" or " Incredible Me"? Either one is available from Escada fragrances. Now, don't blame me if it's just a packaged towelette. I don't make the rules, but hope for a small tube of the stuff. I am going for the "desire me" scent. I'll just make sure loverboy takes some claritin first.

They also have a seduction quiz, and I took it and am happy to reveal I am an expert seductress.

There! and here I was wondering what I could do in my retirement.

Remembering you Craig

Craig would have been 51 today. No tears today. Just a smile and nice memories.
Anyone who knew Craig, knew he was a great dancer. I mentioned today that when going out to the dancefloor, I would warn him... not too many twirls and whirls. He always said" whatever you do, don't let go of my hand, and you'll be alright".
Double trouble told me today, that he would tell her the exact same thing. Only with him, did she feel like she could dance. Too funny !

Alarm clocks

SO this morning as the alarm rings, I mumbled to myself, " so who is the man responsible for these alarm clocks?" I was sure it was a man, as I think a woman would have created something more pleasant.

The answer: ~~The first mechanical alarm clock was invented by Levi Hutchins, of New Hampshire, in the United States, in 1787. This device he made only for himself however, and it only rang at 4 AM, in order to wake him for his job. The French inventor Antoine Redier was the first to patent an adjustable mechanical alarm clock, in 1847. ~~
