Montgomery Bumps

Glands of Montgomery, or Montgomery Bumps, as I have always known them as... are the glands make oily secretions to keep the areola and the nipple lubricated and protected.
~~The round bumps are found in the areola, but also on the nipple itself. The skin over the surface opening are lubricated and tend to be smoother than the rest of the areola. The bumps become more pronounced during pregnancy.
The number of glands varies from four to twenty-eight.~~

28? really? I haven't counted. Learn something new every day.
P.S. Picture from internet source, not from my little canon digital.

What are you baking?

I made homemade granola for tomorrow's bake sale. Great on yogurt, cereal, with milk, or to snack on. I plan to win a chocolate cake for son #1, and cookies by Mrs Fields. If I win the Walkers carrot cake, I'll have to have company over to consume it. See you there.

Spiders

I hate spiders. Always have.
Last night as we watched TV in bed, I had my head on Loverboy's chest. Soon he was nudging me. I was not only sleeping, I was drooling on him. With my mouth wide open ! Well ! Well !Well !
The drooling doesn't bother me .... the disturbing part is that I have been trying to sleep with my mouth shut ever since I learned that in one's lifetime, a person eats about 8 spiders during their sleep !!

I am trying , but it's not working !

Maybe I sit on the wrong side of the table.
And things were serious tonite. No laughing fits. Just a few dating hints here and there.

Halls cough drops

As promised, here is the research I found on Halls Cough drops "addiction".

~~Cough drops and/or menthol are NOT harmful. At 6.5mg menthol per cough drop, you would have to eat approximately 254 cough drops for EVERY pound you weigh to risk dying from them.

So, let's say you weighed 165 lb. You'd have to eat 41,910 cough drops in a few hours to risk death.

I think you are safe.

Makes me Wonder

The Silent one is home, and he loves to watch "The Deadliest Catch." Even reruns will do.
Seems to me that if there was a new reality show on, about everyday life in a nursing home, I wouldn't be tuned into it after a long day at work.

It just doesn't seem to make sense. They are out fishing for days, working hard, and are eager to get home. When they get home, they relax, and watch someone else out fishing for days, working hard, and eager to get home.

April 26, National Pretzel Day

Here's a bit of education on the pretzel. The first known pretzels were ~~created by monks in Southern France to bribe the children into memorizing their bible passages. The earliest known pretzel is from 6th century, in southern France or northern Italy. Legend has it that the pretzel represents arms crossed in prayer, and that the three holes represent the Holy Trinity. The word "pretzel" derives from the Latin work "pretiola," or "little reward."~~

April Bits and Bites

My tulips aren't up, yet on my Sunday drive with Loverboy I saw plenty.

My little "School Street" neighbour wondered if I was ...like ...the mom of all those old people.

Pregnancy seems to be in the air. I have my period and happy to see it.

Dust is made of dead skin cells, the dried feces and dessicated corpses of dust mites and tiny fibers shed by clothing (cotton and jeans are the worst). So if you have many people in your house wearing jeans and cotton underwear, do you have more dust?

Chances are that if you rent a house, near a corner in Pubnico, .... I don't know you. Is it my imagination, or are most rental properties on corners?

Seems as though shingles are popular. Some are putting new ones on their homes, while others are wearing them.

If you are intoxicated and/or on drugs, and have the munchies, it's proven that ketchup chips are your best choice of snack food. The Co-op sells some.

Lincoln and Kennedy

Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846.
John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.
Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860.
John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.
The names Lincoln and Kennedy each contain seven letters.
Both wives lost their children while living in the White House.
Both Presidents were shot on a Friday.
Both Presidents were shot in the head.
Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy.
Kennedy's secretary was named Lincoln.
Both were assassinated by Southerners.
John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, & Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, were both were known by their three names.
Both names are composed of fifteen letters.
Booth ran from the theater and was caught in a warehouse.
Oswald ran from a warehouse and was caught in a theater.
Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.
And here's the kicker... A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland.
A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe.

"A Day in the Life of Pubnico"

April 25, 2010 - Through the lens of photographers Kate Barden and Bruce Cramer.
Centre de Pombcoup , West Pubnico 7 p.m. $5 per person - 200 Photo presentation
In the summer of 2009, photographers Kate Barden and Bruce Cramer(http://www.kbpictures.com/) spent four days in Pubnico taking photographs to capture the spirit of our community. Writer, Sandra Phinney (http://www.sandraphinney.com/ ) accompanied them to find "story". The purpose of this visit was to collaborate on a major feature for Saltscapes Magazine which will be published sometime this year. Sandra Phinney will present 200 photos, an overview of this photo shoot ... plus some shots she took of the photographers and their gear as they were taking the photos. She'll also explain what's involved in doing a community profile for a magazine. It promises to be a fun session!

Bucket Lists

I saw on Facebook, some talk of making a bucket list.
After my bro died, I made myself a bucket list. Life is not only short, but it goes by very fast ! I figured if I had 15 items on my list, and would like to accomplish one item per year, I'd be 60 when I am done, if I make it that far. I realized that these things I wanted to do and see, were just waiting for me. It's all in reach, I just have to find a way, and make it happen. The only thing standing in the way, is myself, the blogger.

Make your list realistic ( no night flights to Venus). Don't feel anything is beyond your means mentally or financially. If you want it bad enough, you will find a way.
Make some short term dreams (before I'm fifty I want to go to Bermuda) and some longer term ones. ( In my lifetime I want to make a difference in an under privileged child's life)

Remember...you only come this way once.

To the tune " The City of New Orleans"

Refrain: ~~Good morning Canada how are you
Don’t you know me , I’m your oldest one
I’m the train they call the City on the Ocean
I’ll have gone a thousand miles when my day is done

Just past noon I start my journey
Docks and crumbling buildings,
swish homes , and graffiti pass me by
fourteen cars, two hundred diverse riders,
some westward to fulfill their dreams
I speed up on the way out of the city
Africville just a memory,
the basin full of ships no more
Refrain
Lunch is served on the City on the Ocean
fields , farms , and rivers of red mud
roll slowly to the Fundy shore
The train slows down , the grade is steep,
the whistle blows disturbing miners’ ghosts
as I rise through hills of coal.
The summit past, I speed
to the marsh where the highest tides come to my wheels,
Refrain
Night falls on the City of the Ocean
Restless riders in the silver dome
gaze on endless woods and rivers,
every hour an aging mill.
The others, who with far to go,
doze to the rhythm of the rails
Refrain
Its midnight on the City of the Ocean
changing crews in Matapedia.
Four hours on ,its dawning now,
the mighty river gleaming in the sun
The whistle blows for every farm,
pass steeples by the score.
In distant north, at peace at last,
the Plains of Abraham
Refrain
The traffic stirs, in stops and starts,
their drivers getting mean
The train rolls on, the hammer down,
pounding on serene.
The end in sight, I’m making ground,
riders waking from their slumbers
A final bridge, a ship is waiting for its rising
I’ve reached my goal, my faded elegance,
reminiscent of a gentler past.
‘Ere a hundred years, I’ve traveled here,
my rails gave birth the nation

Good morning Canada how are you
Don’t you know me , I’m your oldest one
I’m the train they call the City on the Ocean
I have gone a thousand miles and my day is done

Song written by Peter Loveridge ... would make a good VIA rail advertisement.

Do Re Mi

This morning I was singing loudly and putting away laundry, in an effort to peacefully awake my boys. Son # 2 yelled in a robotic voice " Please - Shut -Up - Mame !"

The song I was singing goes like this" I will sing you a song frm the old singing school, and the sounds you there may hear... like the Do Re Mi, and the ABC's and the voices ringing clear..."

I don't even know where I learned it, and was wondering if it's the same song that has this verse in it : the clarinet, the clarinet, goes doodle doodle doodle doodle det ? Do you know???

Dr Seuss

HIS BOOKS LISTED HERE: My favorites are in green. Unheard of's are in red. And apparently I haven't heard of as many as I thought I did. When sis was young, I used to read Green Eggs and Ham, over and over to her. The Poop Scoop

The public meeting tonite was to inform the public of sewer upgrade to the treatment plant. It costs 3-point-something million and all the funds are secured except 23%, which Pubnico sewer hookers will pay.

It will come in the form of a bill.

Likely in January 2011.

It will be (and this is an estimate) between $1300 and $1600.

You can pay it two ways:

a) within 60 days, no interest

b) spread over 10 years on your property tax bill.

This amount is for a dwelling. If you are a business with several toilets, and already pay based on that queer toilet rate; well you will pay more than the capital fee of $1300-1600.

They mentioned 3 roads which people have already requested extensions. The existing sewer cannot support any extensions. Extensions costs, I think I understood, are to be shared between the new hook-ups on that extension. Dennis Point, Chemin Cornu, and also ??? hmm... I forgot. They will be looking at this after the work is completed.

There will, be no disruption in service. You can flush 24-7. (thank God, as some a wicked flu bug)
Work starts in May . (yes, that's in 10 days.)

Good meeting, no bull shit . ( hehe)

Bibles and Hotel rooms

Ever wonder why there's a bible in every hotel room?
~~Today the Gideon Society has something to do with it.
In the early days, most of the Gideons were traveling salesmen who wanted to be effective Christian witnesses while on the road. They decided to place a Bible at the reception desk in each hotel they frequented so patrons could borrow it. Today, the Gideons place more than 45,000,000 bibles annually in prisons, hospitals, military bases and, of course, hotel rooms.~~

~~But if you want to know who started the phenomenon of placing Bibles in hotel rooms, the credit goes to the International Bible Society who started putting Bibles in hotels in 1823 -- more than 75 years before the Gideons started their ministry.
There is no jealousy or competitive fervor between the groups. Each expresses admiration for the other's work. They just want everyone to curl up with a Good Book. ~~

Crimson and Clover

Over and over. Well what do those lyrics mean?

Well as I researched I found a few interesting tidbits. When it first came out many thought they were singing " Christmas is Over ".
Some thought it had to do with drugs. Some thought it had to do with death (red) and life (green). Some thought it had to do with starting and stopping a relationship ( red and green again) BUT Tommy James said it was simply from his favorite color and his favorite flower. "They were just two of my favorite words that came together. Actually, it was one morning as I was getting up out of bed, and it just came to me, those two words. And it sounded so poetic. I had no idea what it meant, or if it meant anything. They were just two of my favorite words.

Too many Fresh Mushrooms?

~~ Don’t let them get soft and decay. Try one of the following:
Dry The Mushrooms. Dried mushrooms will last for years and retain an intensified form of their flavor. Simply dehydrate the mushrooms in an oven at 140°F, or in a dehydrator if you have one. The cooking time varies with the amount of moisture the mushrooms have; watch until they are moisture-free. Dried mushrooms are excellent in soups, stews and sauces, and can be reconstituted for omelets, pasta and other recipes. Keep in an airtight container in the pantry.
Freeze The Mushrooms. Spread the mushrooms on a cookie sheet, making sure they don’t touch. They will freeze, retaining their original shape. After they’re frozen, line them up in a container on wax paper sheets, like cookies. Never freeze a bag of fresh mushrooms; you’ll end up one large, frozen chunk.
Sauté And Freeze. Sauté the mushrooms in butter or olive oil and then freeze them. ~~
