52 Casseroles

Starting this week, I am going to make a casserole a week for 52 weeks.
I'll share the results with you all. (For those counting weight watcher points, I'll try to include the fiber, calories, and fat content so you can figure it out.)
I have children, so these casseroles will not be Julia Child quality.

Saturday Golf

Yes, had a wonderful round of golf today.
Everything was beautiful except for the score.
I may as well have gone to the beach, as it seems like I spent a lot of time in the sand.
A big surprize on #2 when I realized I had no pitching or sand wedge AT ALL in my bag.
God love the mother who shares cart storage with her son.
I would have borrowed one, but as Murphy's law might state in this case:
The right handed player who has no sand wedge, plays with all left handed partners.

Needs paint

I feel bad for that rock wall across from UAP, on the Flouffe's hill.
My whole life there was such pride taken into keeping it nicely painted white.
It's never looked worse than it does today.
Suppose we could ask the neighboring fellow (nicknamed after a celestial body) to paint it?

Happy Birthday Leo

One of our residents has turned 100 today !
That's really quite a milestone.
He's on practically one medication, and that's just since he turned 98.
A believer in a drink of rum for your cough, and medicated ointment for everything else. I think he's on to something good.
I'm 47 and when he's looking for me, he calls me "la veille"! (Old lady)

Royal visit to Pubnico

Remember this? When years ago, Queen Elizabeth paid a visit to Pubnico?
She had spent the night in Room # 1 at the Red Cap. Tana even separated the pepper from the salt shakers that day.
At Slu store, Meta sold her some bright pink material for a new dress, and she also sold her a half a Popsicle. Tied up her parcel with that ball of twine that hung from the ceiling.
She skipped the glass candy display and went to la shoppe a John for a fireball and a warm reception.

Grapenuts

We talked about grapenuts yesterday.
Grapenut ice cream.
Call me stupid, but I didn't realize that Grapenuts, from the Grapenut cereal, are the grapenuts in Grapenut ice cream.
Nutty eh?
~~Grapenut ice cream was created by chef Hannah Young at the The Palms restaurant in Wolfville, Nova Scotia in 1919. She created it when she had run out of fresh fruit to add into the ice cream, and instead decided to throw in some of the cereal. It proved popular at the restaurant and Farmers Dairy mass producing the ice cream variety, and it spread across the region.~~
One employee told me her mom used to make grapenut pudding.
4 cups milk, warmed
1 cup Post Grape Nuts cereal
4 large eggs, beaten
1 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon or 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (or both)

350°F
oven
Pour warm milk over cereal in a large mixing bowl. Let stand 5 minutes. Add eggs, sugar, salt, vanilla, and cinnamon and/or nutmeg. Mix well.

Pour into a buttered 9 x 13 x 2-inch baking dish set inside a larger pan filled with water

Bake about 60 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Serve hot or cold.

Tidy Tuesday

Experts say that if you've got a busy week, and barely any time to houseclean, there are 5 things you should make time for everyday.
  • dishes ... if you can only do one thing, do the dishes. Studies show not only will you feel better, chances are you will eat better if your kitchen is tidy. You'll take the time to prepare a good meal if the area is clutter free and clean. Dishes can pile up quickly, and doing them now will take less time, than struggling with a heap later.
  • Make the beds. It takes very little time, and the room will look 85% cleaner with a bed made.
  • Laundry. Do a load a day, even if it's a small load. Like dishes, the heap can get overwhelming.
  • 5 minute clean up. Set a timer, make a race, recruit others. You'll be surprised how much you can accomplish with a simple 5 minutes of tidying.
  • bathroom wipe down. No, you don't have to haul out the cleaner, just use the damp towel you have and give your sinks and countertops a clean swipe before tossing it into the hamper.
The rest of the house can wait until you have time.

Had a chuckle

As a blogger, I have access to various stats.
While I can't tell who is viewing, I can see how many hits my blog has had, and at what time, what posts are read the most, and what countries are reading. Every day I have at least 10 different countries, Canada is always #1, USA is #2, and Russia is #3. Surprising eh?
8 am and 10 and 11 pm are the most popular reading times. Mondays have most hits.
I can also see how people have reached my blog. Most reach my blog through it's website address. But some people type in "Charlene LeBlanc Blog" into google and find it that way. Some people just stumble upon it.
Today I had a few hits from people looking for info through google.
One was "avon bubble bath uses", and one was "the earwig life cycle".
The last one on the list really made me laugh...
"it's Easter Monday feel like masturbating".

Priceless !

BFF

There's nothing that compares to the camaraderie of a great girl friend.
Your BFF.
I called mine today.
We'd like to get together soon, but it's a long drive, and we're always busy.

I told her, "Let's wait a bit. Right now I'm off fat, dairy, citrus, alcohol ,and caffeine".
She exclaims " ALCOHOL AND CAFFEINE ! You may as well jump off a cliff !

She always makes me laugh.

Welcome

Welcome to my blog JH.

Slow Cooker Beef tips

I have made this a few times. My father said he couldn't believe anything coming from that slow cooker could be so good. I served it over linguine for him as he doesn't eat rice, but I prefer the rice.

Beef, cut into small strips

1 can golden mushroom soup
1 pkg. dry onion soup mix

For the beef, I'll usually just cut up round steak, or a small roast.
Mix together the soup and dry soup mix with 1 can of water.
Don't replace the Golden Cream of Mushroom with another kind. You may as well get the real thing, as it really taste better in this recipe. I don't think the co-op has it, but Sobeys and Superstore do carry it.
Pour over the beef tips in slow cooker. Cook for 6 to 8 hours on low.

I once added a can of mushrooms, and although I love mushrooms, it seemed the one cooked without them was tastier.

Monday's Sexual health Post

Last week, when researching the thong, I came across a young person desperate for an answer. She felt she was the only female on earth who had developed a few hairs between her buttocks, near her anus.
Well I hope someone told her that hair can appear almost anywhere and it is certainly not unusual for it to appear on the buttocks (particularly of men) or between the buttocks (on women). It is normal, and very common. Like masturbation, it's one of those topics we either avoid, or lie about. We're like that.

And just why would we have stray hair around our anus area? And do we have to keep it?
The purpose of the hair is to prevent chafing.
And certainly you can remove it if you really want to. Just don't complain about a chaffed buttock crack afterwards.

Given that the area is delicate, I read that you should avoid hair removal creams and lotions.

You could use a razor to remove any unwanted hair. Apply plenty of shaving cream and shave your buttocks. Shaving your hair is the most common method of removing unwanted hair. It is also the most time efficient. However, shaving is very temporary.

Or you may choose to wax your buttocks. You can do it yourself with a home kit, or strips, or you may want to leave it to the professionals. It will grow back smoother and slower than shaving will. Sugar wax is much like regular wax but cleans up with water.
You may also want to try electrolysis or laser. However it is a costly and time-consuming.
Or you may decide to love your body as is. It is free and good for you.

Laundry, Laundry !

I collected some laundry tips.
Here they are:
*cut your dryer sheets in half, and you'll see a half sheet is plenty
* instead of a dryer sheet for static, make a loosely crumpled up ball of aluminum foil. It works for several loads.
* the laundry detergent cup. It's gotta be a trick. A full load rarely needs a full laundry detergent cup. The lines are barely visible. We use too much and buy frequently, just like the manufacturer hopes we will. Get your marker out, and mark those lines.
*Plush bath towels. I am unable to totally convince the men in this house, but if you are wet, AND CLEAN ,then your bath towel, after you have dried off, should be wet, AND CLEAN. Clean enough to dry and reuse at least once ! Amen !
* clothes that will pill should be washed inside out to reduce the piling effect that is caused by the machines agitation. Hanging clothes inside out, especially in the bright sun, will reduce fading. *Wash at night, open your machine, loosen the wet clothes a bit. Letting them sit there overnight will reduce drying time in the morning.
The dryer is hard on elastics, such as in our unmentionables. Hang them up to dry.
Unmentionables ? That's a laugh.... as it seems anything is mentionable on this blog.

A 3 Generation run

Saw the Plane man running today. I couldn't help but smile !
He, his three daughters, and a grand daughter will be running the 10k Blue Nose marathon !
~~As many as 10,500 runners and walkers will take to the streets of Halifax and Dartmouth in a celebration of healthy active living.~~
As parents, we know there is no greater feeling than experiencing something grand with your family by your side !
What an example he sets today as we see him jog through the village !

Spring Shed

Just too proud of the spring shed group too not share results.
As of last week, our little group of seven lost an amazing 157 pounds since January 2nd.
That's three 50 pound bags of potatoes.
We have all been doing a great job motivating each other to stay on track, and to move.
Our bodies are saying thank you !

Constipation in Men

Well, that's a topic for Easter morning.
The other evening during the flyer frenzy, it was mentioned that "women's laxative" were on sale . So why aren't they called Men's laxative?
We laughed and said that men aren't constipated. And I guess it's mostly true.
You are likely married to one of these guys. He has breakfast and hangs around for a couple minutes waiting for his sure date with the toilet.
"His regular bowel movement."
Lucky Him ! I can have a bowel movement on Friday, and spend the weekend in the city, and have the next one when I get back home.
Why aren't women regular?
  • Stress from everything.
  • We likely eat more fiber and less fat than he.
  • Those hormones.
  • Holding stools in because we are unwilling to use public bathrooms ( afraid of causing a smell or noise).
  • Being natural born strainers ( baby machines ya know), sometimes unsuccessful pushing will just create a bigger stool. Ain't that's a pain in the butt.

Kinder surprize Ban

I didn't know that Kinder Surprise eggs were banned in the US. I read that in a CTV article today. It was reminding travellers to leave them in Canada. Been banned since 1997 !

~~ The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says the toys within the eggs fail to meet their small parts requirements for children less than three years of age.

Health Canada has deemed the toys, which are difficult for small children to take apart without the help of an adult, safe.~~

Last year, U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized 25,000 Kinder Surprise eggs!

Wow!! talk about an egg hunt !

Handsome males (amended)

Well, well, well.
Thanks to all who watched for good looking men at church, who stopped me in stores, sent messages, and even stopped by my office; all to tell me who is good looking! And thanks Neighbourette for calling me about the age error !
I don't know what to say about Lower West Pubnico. It`s a hot spot ! The following five late 40s mentioned were from Lr. West:
1) two brothers... live side my side in a windy area.
2) one non-nova scotian male who married a Pubnico native. Now sports quite a bit of grey in his hair. My favorite of all mentioned.
An honorable mention:One I'll call wharf rat although he has been on my blog with a different name.
Another honorable mention ...however around age 39 ...... let's say he has a connection to a pastry dessert.
Still in Lower west, the following business man was mentioned more than once. But he's just turned 50. Tall. Works with women.
On to older men in their 60's: we travel down to Pubnico Head but not past the library. RM was mentioned. Also handsome is the sheep Herder. I realize there are two sheep herders in the area. I am talking about the one with an ever growing building collection.
While in this area, there's an around-5o year old man with a bit of grey in his goatie. Has a political background, and women like to watch him run. He even makes one admirer weak at the knees.

Priceless

I saw a great dance duet video tonight. It really should be on youtube. I never knew my neighbor from over the chickie pond had such dance moves. Balance was an issue, but the beat was down path. What will be next for this couple.... Dancing with the stars? or dancing while seeing stars?

Flyer Frenzy

Had a great evening at Mrs Fields. She hosted a flyer frenzy night, for those who faithfully go through the flyers every week, cup of tea in hand. I had to confess to Rojo, that I wasn't a flyer reader. I was allowed to stay just the same.
When the Ginger spice girl showed up with her Spice Girl apron, carrying a plate of ginger snap cookies, I really started to wonder. I secretly prayed that there would be no parade of good looking men, and thankfully there was not.
The tune"I got a feeling" played. It has significance to flyer night, as I made it the flyer anthem last year.
This flyer stuff is serious. It's a weekly ritual. They do it to relax, dream, and get the best deal.
There was flyers for all and an organizational list.
An array of beautiful sweets to sample, beautiful people, hot tea, bubbly conversation and laughter.
Even a little tear was shed .

Thanks

Thanks to all who have been sharing their thoughts on good looking men.
I promise to share the findings, very soon.

Long week

Been a long week. Travelled to Burridge with Son #2 for a firearm course.
3 nights, and 4 hours each night.
I do have to say that they have the cleanest bathrooms around.
The chairs are pretty comfy, and the atmosphere is nice at Burridge.
Very inviting, and they have many nice places to sit and study.
The course was long, yet interesting.
Soon we'll have another duck hunter in the house for me to worry about.

Monday's Sexual Topic

Good Monday morning.
Today we are going to talk about thongs.
I have a friend who once said " if there's an "X" on the tag on your underwear, you don't wear thongs".

Thongs should be made of non-synthetic material, such as cotton.
For those who don't know the word taint: "it ain't the vagina and it ain't the anus".
It's the nice, soft shipping route found between the two.
I called it a shipping route because bacteria can travel from the anus to the vagina.
How do they travel?
Well they can hitch rides on items such toilet tissue, penises, and yes, also on thongs.
Experts claim that wearing thongs do not cause infections, but if you are prone to infections, you may experience more.
Straps which are thin and tight, like dental floss, can cause irritation to the clitoris, chafing, and also hemorrhoids.
Straps which are too loose fitting, can act as a carrier for bacteria, traveling via the taint.
So wear properly fitting thongs and keep your anus fresh and clean.

Pearl thongs made a hit ever since they appeared on Sex and the City.
It's crotchless thong, with just a single or double strand of pearls instead of a fabric crotch, going from back to front.
They aren't just underwear; if you can get those beads just at the right spot, you will sound a lot more pleasant when answering the phone at work.

I read about a lady walking through the mall, and one of her strands broke, the pearls came flying out of her pant leg. A little boy scrambled around collecting them all. How sweet !

I'll be like Julia Child... I'll wear my beads around my neck.

Happy Birthday

It's the Barnum Animal Cracker's birthday.
Animal crackers were first made in England, then two New York companies were ultimately acquired by the New York Biscuit Company, which then became part of the National Biscuit Company (known today as Nabisco).
In 1902, just in time for Christmas, at 5 cents a box, the famous circus box came out. It had a string on it, so you could hang it on the tree.
There's been lots of animals. 54 I think I read. They ditched the dog and jaguar, and replaced them with hyena and gorilla. The koala is the newest, he came into the box in 2002.
Each box has 22 crackers.
The hyena must be the cracker I can't figure out.

Whispering Rain by Murray Mclauchlin

I heard this song this morning, and it always reminds me of Cyril a Nook. The song was released in 1978, therefore I figure my memory dates back to that time. We had a house party of of some sort. My parents were also there. Cyril had brought a stereo with him that night and some music. He and his girlfriend spent the night at our home. They slept in the living room. On that Sunday morning, we all awoke to "Whispering Rain". Cyril had it blasting throughout the house. Since then it has always reminded me of him.
It's bittersweet to listen to it.
Sad because he's gone.
Yet remembering him brings a smile.
Smile today as you remember him.
You owe it to him.
He certainly made many of us smile.

Listen to it here...

Whispering rain,
Careless emotion
Rising and falling
Waves On the ocean
Carry you on
'til nothing remains
Only the sound
Of the whispering rain

Jackson Browne

Here's one of my favorite's.
It's Jackson Browne's The Load Out/Stay song.
Slowly starts, it's a song about packing up after a concert. Other instruments pick up at 3:50 min, and Stay (just a little bit longer) starts at 5:50 mins.
AT 7:07 another guy chimes in, sure to make you smile.
So nice, and so long.
HERE

Against the wind

Bob Seger's tune.
Appropriate title for today.
Wow, it has some great piano in it.
I heard it at Sobey's .
They had this album at Florent's when I was younger.

Listen to it.

"I'm still running against the wind."

Duck, duck , Goose?

I had a wonderful note from the bride to be.
She said that they saw the dead "goose" on the highway, and it had orange legs, therefore they believed it to be a duck.

I sure hope it was a duck.

Slow Cooker Ham

Yummy.... a maple glazed slow cooker ham recipe ! Just in time for Easter !

I always cook my ham in the slow cooker. It's fool proof.

Put your ham in the crock pot, flat side down.

1 cup of dark brown sugar.

Rub it all over the ham.

Mix together 1/2 cup maple syrup and 2 cups of pineapple juice.

Pour over the ham. Set it for 8 hours on low.

In a few hours, and once in awhile afterwards,

baste the ham with the juices collected in the bottom.

(My kids are petrified of glaze, as I scared them with whole cloves. A plain ol' ham in the slow cooker, with some water, on low for 7 or 8 hours, is always good as ever. Once I started using the slow cooker for my ham, I never looked back.)

Mini blinds into roman shades

Well, it can be done. Turn your old pair of mini blinds into roman shades. It's a great step by step process described here.

Austrian Inn

Had a great luncheon meeting with BB and Fluffy's mom yesterday.
Thanks for the wit and laughter.
I started feeling like we were rehearsing a "sex and the city" skit !

Arthur

Loverboy and I went to the show tonight to see Arthur.
It was good. 7 on a scale of 1 to 10.
I was singing the Arthur theme, and had hoped to hear it somewhere in the movie, but never did.

Listen to the 1981's ARTHUR'S THEME

The year of the Rabbit

~~“Let there be peace -- and let it begin with me” is the Rabbit motto. 2011 is a time to kiss and make up. Forgive and forget. Get along. Make love not war. ~~

Self-indulgence is another Rabbit theme. So treat yourself. Read a book. Read a good light hearted blog. Educate yourself. Go to the theater. Travel with friends. Go to the spa. The Rabbit will put lots of temptation in front of you, so don't overdo anything.

Good Looking Men

Well seems as though I have not mentioned any good looking men well into their forties.

Hmmm.....
(....thinking hard...)
( .... still thinking...)
(... reminiscing about school mates......)
(.... more thinking... )

Well seems as though I have not mentioned any good looking men well into their forties.

Craving

I'm craving Yarmouth Candy.
The one that is all white.
Clove flavor.
Can I get some anywhere???
