Granadilla

~~The Granadilla belongs to the family of passiflora and grows to a climber. Granadilla is native to South America and has a strong but fragile, orange skin. The fruit has the shape and size of a plum. The shell is hard and shiny., . ~~ The kids, and my mother-in-law said it looked fake. It did look like plastic. We cut it open and the inside looks like slimy frog eggs. Loverboy would not have a bite. Surprisingly it was very, very good. We all ate a bite, and I had the remainder mixed in yogurt. It had a little hint of lemon, reminded me a bit of kiwi, but was sweet. The fruit comes out clean from the shell, and the inside of the shell looks like coral. Very nice.

Even Older Age Pension

Starting in April 2023, the age of eligibility for OAS and GIS will be gradually increased from 65 to 67. In other words, Canadians who were born on or after Feb. 1, 1962 can expect to receive OAS benefits at age 67. The age of eligibility will gradually rise for Canadians who were born between April 1, 1958 and January 31, 1962. The OAS age of eligibility remains unchanged for Canadians born before March 31, 1958.
And starting on July 1, 2013, Canadians can opt for a voluntary deferral of OAS for up to 5 years and receive an actuarially adjusted higher pension. Here’s an example provided in the Budget document:
Rita will be turning 65 in December 2013. She plans to continue working as long as she can. She prefers to forgo her OAS pension for the maximum deferral period of five years so that she can have a substantially higher annual pension amount, starting at age 70. When she takes up her OAS pension at age 70, her annual pension will be $8,814 instead of $6,481 (in 2012 dollars).

Week #42 Turkey Noodle Casserole

2 c. noodles, cooked
2 c. turkey or chicken, cooked & diced
1/2 c. milk
1 can condensed Cream of Chicken soup
1/2 c. bread crumbs
2 tbsp. butter
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Into a casserole put alternate layers of noodles and chicken. Mix up the first 4 ingredients.
Pour in buttered casserole. Sprinkle with bread crumbs, dot with tablespoon butter.
Bake 30 minutes. Makes 4 servings.
COMMENTS: I guess we were hungry. Son #1 and I ate it all. It was very good despite the few ingredients. Son # 1 was surprised I didn't throw in mushrooms, or peas. So was I !
I cooked and used egg noodles.
1/2 cup bread crumbs seemed like a lot for an 8x8 dish, but it was delicious. I used these seasoned bread crumbs I had in the cupboards for coating fish. Very good and easy !
First picture was before baking.

Small Countries

The Vatican City is the world's smallest country. It's located entirely within the city of Rome, Italy. The Vatican City is 0.2 square miles.
Next in line is Monaco, a country along the french riviera. It's 2 square kilometers, and has over 32,000 people. It's known for it's Monte Carlo casino and of course, princess Grace.
Locals from Monaco are called Monégasques and they're not allowed to enter the famous Monte Carlo Casino.

Tidy Tuesday

I have been reading about simpler and greener living and thought Tuesday was a good place to share 7 steps to simpler living.
  • Consume less. Pretty simple. Make a list on Sunday of things you want to buy (non-food items. ) Don't go to the stores as stores encourage impulse buying. Wait until Saturday and look over that list.
  • Consider the waste: yes, some items come heavily packaged. Recycle what you can. Make good choices.
  • Save energy: Learn to weatherize; ( I just bought those foam templates to install under switch plates) replace inefficient appliances; consider more energy-efficient lighting; and rearrange your living spaces so they take better advantage of natural heat, lighting and cooling.
  • Prepare / grow your own food: I watch "till Debt do us part" and I am always amazed at the amount of meals some families buy (take-outs and eat-in). Preparing your own meals, versus buying ready to heat, and restaurants, is not only healthier; it is an enormous money saver.
  • Reduce car use: easier said than done, I know. At least try to plan all your errands for one trip, and plan them according to location. Do all the stops necessary on one side of the road, and then turn around, and do the same on your way back home. Makes sense, and saves gas.
  • Reduce personal stress: We are hopelessly overstimulated. Living a greener life is not about learning new things, but it focuses on letting go of the old. Find more time for you.
  • Learn to give back: and I was just talking about this to a friend. We have good intentions to do wonderful things for some people, but we are busy, and the gesture goes undone, and it leaves us feeling hopeless and crappy. We need more time. We need to live simpler.

Bathrooms

I totally understand the concept of having the milk in grocery stores in the corner furthest from the door. It makes you walk through the store.
What I don't get, is having bathrooms in stores, at the furthest end. And what about those stores who tell you "Sorry we have no bathroom?"
Unless your store is a rented space in the middle of the mall, I will not believe you for a minute. Who do you think you are fooling ?

Sunday supper

I had great idea yesterday.
When the four of us are at home on Sunday afternoon, we should draw a name. The winner gets to choose and make supper for the rest ! and clean up !
The idea brought mixed feelings, and a whole lot of body language.
Rolled eyes, shrugged shoulders ... and some what if's.
"What if it's Son #2? " asked hungry son #1. He can't even make Kraft dinner ! He doesn't even eat meat !
He has a point I agree, but he can make pancakes and he can cook eggs and make toast.
They all walked away ... but I will remember ...hehe

Papaya

I read that the papaya fruit can weigh in up to twenty pounds, but the average papaya is about six inches long and weighs from one to two pounds.
When fully ripe, the skin is bright yellow.
Ripe papayas should be refrigerated to slow down the ripening process.
This papaya was super ! Very good indeed. My mother ate the seeds, they taste somewhat peppery.
The fruit has tons of nutrients, and antioxidants. Vit C and A, B-complex, and is even good for constipation.
In traditional medicine, papaya seeds are anti-inflammatory, anti-parasitic, and analgesic, and they are used to treat stomachache and ringworm infections. A teaspoon will also work as a Liver Detoxifier, according to Chinese medicine.
In Cuba, one of the ladies who traveled with me, had a swimsuit the colour of papaya. When calling out for her, we referred to her as "papaya". The Cubans got a real kick out of it. Apparently "papaya" is slang for a woman's genitals . Hahaha !!

Monday's Sexual Post

Dryness is the topic.
I am not talking about dry vaginas today, I am talking about the skin surrounding the area. I didn't even realize that the area can become very dry, peeling and even flaky. Almost with certainty, the dry area has nothing to do with sex, or the frequency of sex.
An irritation from pads, a bad razor, or an allergy to a certain body wash, soap or bubble bath is more often the culprit.
How to fix it??
Apply some olive oil after cleaning yourself or use Vaseline to moisturize the area.
Use a diaper rash cream on outer sensitive dry areas. (not inside the vagina)
Use tea tree soap or Dove or Pears soap .
Have baking soda bath daily ~ Put 4 heaped tablespoons of baking soda in your bath water and lay in it for at least 20 minutes. Or use Epsom salts bath ~ 2 heaped tablespoons in a bath of water.
Start taking Vitamin E supplements (100–600 IU daily)

It's a male nickname puzzle

Whose household uses the least electricity? Answer: Six letter first name. It is scrambled.

  • Fish plant owner with a nickname. Double consonants in his nickname. The last letter in the nickname.
  • the third letter in Chike's real name.
  • In the Pond Road, a two word nickname that rhymes. The first letter in the first part.

So far so good eh?

  • The second letter in the first name of a long haired "sweetheart".
  • Son of a refreshing beverage. The first letter of his first name. The beverage is the nickname here, not the son's name.
  • He is popular in the winter. His nickname has two words. Last letter of the second word .

Tidy Tuesday

Toilet seats are the topic.
It's hard to clean around those hinges.
I read that a MacDonald's in Sweden put their toilet seats in the dishwasher.
I like scrubbing bubbles and paper towel. Paper towel seems to work better than a rag in those tight spots. I have even used Bon Ami around the hinges.
An old toothbrush is also a great way to scrub around those hinges, and of course, you can always remove the seat from the hinges once in a while and give it a good scrub.
If you have urine stains on your toilet seat, mix 1/4 cup white vinegar and 1/4 cup baking soda in a bowl to make a foamy paste. Using an old toothbrush saturated with the paste, scrub the stain, and leave 10 minutes, before wiping.
Wooden toilet seats... well that's another issue. I don't like them, and don't have one.

Monday's Sexual Post

I started out by looking for "sex on the Beach" info... not the drink or the dessert. With many lovers headed to warmer weather, I thought I might find some hot position for you. Didn't find anything we didn't already know. While the surf is romantic, you should have sex on the beach, not in the beach. Keeping your genitals out of the sand is best. A position like "woman on top" is always great. Wear a dress, no undies, after dark... and a little sand on your knees and a great orgasm sounds perfect to any woman! Never mind about the sand in his butt crack. He'll quickly overcome. Find a secluded spot and remember that woman with dress up can run faster than man with pants down.
What I did come across was this position for hot summer afternoons. ~~Stand beside a soft-spraying sprinkler and bend over so the water hits your genitals. If you can't reach your hands to the ground, place them on your thighs or calves for support. Your partner should stand behind you and put his hands around your waist as he enters you. ~~ I don't know about the sprinkler part. It's just not appealing to me. If you try it, let me know how enjoyable it was.

Swim Diapers

I read this and found it hard to believe. ~~Unlike regular diapers, swim diapers are made to take much more punishment. They’re designed to withhold the water, obviously, so you can put them in the wash two or three times (at least) before they start coming loose at the sides. Of course, don’t wash a soiled diaper. But if it’s just wet, throw it in the washing machine. When it’s washed, let it AIR DRY. Otherwise, it will become a hard and crunchy mess.

Ya Pear

The Ya Pear is also known as a Chinese White Pear and is native to northern China where it is widely grown. I read that they taste like a cross between a rose and a pineapple. I would have said they taste like an apple. Crisper than a juicy pear.
Ya pears are hard when ripe, unlike the pears we are used to. They can last up to 2 weeks in the fridge. I read that they are very hypoallergenic, and are great for introducing fruit to infants.
Interesting !

Bunny ears

According to a very important survey, 72% of the people eat the ears of their chocolate Easter bunnies first.
I am surprized it's not higher.
I think all people should eat the ears first.
I think they should create and sell an ears-only chocolate treat as well. They are the best part.

Jocko the stud

has died of natural causes leaving behind as many as 400,000 offsprings. Jocko had an industrious 17-year career donating some 1.7 million sperm straws (vials) that were used in France and abroad to keep alive the Prim'Holstein cattle strain, the main strain of black-and-white milking cow used in France. He ranked third globally in terms of use. Born in 1994 at a farm belonging to breeder Gildas Fertil, Jocko was allowed to retire last year and died earlier this month. Rather than becoming prize beef, his body is to be sent to Paris' natural history museum where his prowess will be studied. ~~Reuters news

Tidy Tuesday

Yes, it's Wednesday, not Tuesday at all. I am a day late.
Here's a some things that Tidy Tuesday inspired me to try, over the year, with success ...
  • long candles, now stored in paper towel roll
  • shine up my sink regularly with olive oil
  • now use homemade detergent
  • I mark the centre of son#2's top sheet with a colored stitch for easy bed making
  • all manuals now stored in an accordian file
  • lazy susan now has cans on top, pasta on bottom
  • small dishes used as "launching pads" on nightstand & window sill
  • if I buy a new top, I toss out/donate a top
  • took pictures of sentimental stuff I no longer wanted to display, and got rid of them
  • I roll my son's t-shirts in his dresser drawer, and he can see them all and choose one, without flipping the works
  • I used the counter top rule for my kitchen, and stored my kitchenaid
  • When in the mood, I'll do the 27 item clean up
